about

"Ghetto Princess", the 2011 released debut album of Jamaican songstress Diana Rutherford, included a wonderful tune called "Rebel", on which she was solely accompanied by an acoustic guitar, played by producer/musician Romain "Sherkhan" Chiffre of Tiger Records. That song now re-appears on the label's brand new juggling release called "Dutty Foot Riddim".

Can't think of any 'one riddim' set that features only an acoustic guitar as the backing for the artists, but there has to be a first one and here it is. The guitar picking simply sounds good and the other good thing about it is, that the listener can fully focus on listening to the lyrics of the songs. The efforts of the artists involved are above par and we have to admit that some of the tunes have given us goose bumps. "Send Her" by Junior X is a sublime lovers lament in which he paints such a heart wrenching picture that it almost brings tears to your eyes. Also Norrisman's "My Feelings For You" deals with affairs of the heart, and again we're treated to a track that makes a very good impression.

Lutan Fyah, who hails from the parish of St. Catherine, hardly ever delivers a disappointing piece and his "Wat A Lala" is no exception, not least because he once again shows that he's a singer with a great deal of vocal control. Lyrically he also convinces, which makes his cut on the riddim a big conscious tune! Veteran Terry Ganzie already made a good impression on Tiger Records' "Box Guitar" riddim, and here he even outmatches that effort with the moving "Where You're Going". The set is rounded of with Sherkhan's "Dutty Foot Riddim Version", which is the icing on the cake.

Well worth checking out.
