about
French born, Kingston JA based, producer Romain "Sherkhan" Chiffre, the man behind the desk for Perfect's excellent third album, French Connection, has a new tune doing the rounds. It's a combination featuring a deejay you may possibly have heard of named Sizzla Kalonji and August Town's former child prodigy singer Diana Rutherford. Entitled A New Day it asks us to prepare for a future where suffering becomes a thing of the past.
The track was voiced at Sizzla's fire ravaged old house in Half Way Tree. Sizzla and Rutherford have a history together. Both recorded for Fatis Burrell when Diana was very young.
Much like last year's release You Mean The World To Me, featuring Rutherford and Erup, A New Day resides on the more poppy, hip-hop dancehall coast of 'Khan's work. Less rootical than his sides with Perfect it still bears the producer's signature intro tiger roar SFX. Trendy chant-spliced beats, nicely reverb-ed synth strings, meandering jazzy bass and Spanish style guitar underpin a reality rap from Sizzla (with minimal falsetto) and some resonant optimistic vibes from Rutherford, whose impressive vocal power is apparent even beneath the studio gloss that has become industry standard.
All in all, a quality Tiger Records production showcasing great synergy between its two vocalists. Message music with a catchy radio friendly feel.
